Goal:
To identify how power works in relationships. 

To explore the concepts of Power Over vs. Personal Power. 

To identify family of origin setups for the development of these imbalances of power. 

To identify treatment strategies for the victim of this type of domestic violence.

Objective:
The student will be able to discuss the 2 concepts of power in abusive relationships.

The participant will be able to identify 3 family traits the may be a set up for the victim to be a victim of Verbal Abuse.

The student will be able to discuss 2 treatment strategies.

C16-C16a - Domestic Violence (Victim Treatment Focus)

13 Hours / 3 Hours

Goal:
To educate professionals working in the field of health care about the impact and treatment of victims of domestic violence. 

To address its impact on the individual, the family unit, the workplace, society and violence in general.

Objective:
Identify the components found in cycle of abuse.

Discuss 5 reasons why the victim stays in an abusive relationship.

Define types of abuse, trauma bonds, initial and long-term survival and recovery strategies.

Discuss 5 healthy family traits.

C17/ C17a  - Domestic Violence (Perpetrator Treatment Focus)

11 Hours / 3 Hours

Newton Hightower LCSW-ACP, LCDC has designed this course to aid counselors in treating the perpetrator of domestic violence. Power and control are the issues with domestic violence, regardless of the types of abuse. Newton has created a Certification Course for counselors working with this population. He is located in Houston, Texas

Goal:
The goal of this course is to identify treatment strategies found helpful in dealing with this population.

Objective:
Explain 3 stages in recovery from this type of perpetration.

Discuss the intoxication power of cursing and its impact on people who rage.

Describe the value of having the violent client agree to repress the expression of anger.
